Raising the Bar

Jeff has always been supportive of my healthy reboot, even though he isn't as single minded as I tend to get. He doesn't have as much to lose, either. And over the past few days it's become more apparent that he's leaning even more toward the healthy end of things.

He got his cholesterol numbers from the doc today, and although they aren't bad, they could be better. He'd really like to drop some of his meds, and knows that healthier food choices and more exercise can lead to that.

Tonight over dinner (steak, baked potatoes, steamed green beans), we were talking more about goal setting. I said that there were two kinds of goals: results oriented (I want to lose x amount of weight) and behavior oriented (I want to eat better). Although I'm frequently very results oriented, I try to make behavioral goals as well.

Then he offered that if he would cut out fast food, he could save $20 or $25 a week--maybe that saved money could be used for something he really wants? One of Jeff's big things is that he wants to visit every major league baseball stadium. He's been to about half of them--the half that are closest to our home, of course. The rest of them are quite a hike. But if he "banks" the money he would have spent on fast food, he could earn a trip to another stadium.

When I got past the "how much fast food have you been eating?" dismay, I was all for it. This is a TREMENDOUS motivator for him. It will take quite a while to save up, essentially until the start of next season. He knows that he won't bank 100% every month, and to even try that is an unreasonable expectation. But I think this is something that will keep him moving forward in a really good way.

I think he's really going to be working this now. I'm really excited for both of us moving forward!

Favorite Beatles song on my iPod: "Revolution."

That was awesome! Bizarre, but awesome! Is that the SUB? Geez, it's huge! (sniff) I won't recognize it once we finally get to go there!

It starts out in the (new) Rendezvous complex, but then ends in the SUB.

It's directly across the street from the Library. It's where East Hall was (they tore it down).

(At least you didn't choose "Twist and Shout!")
