Music

I haven't been thinking about music much lately.  My iPod lies untouched, forlorn on my nightstand.  The truly ironic part of this is that a scant few days before my grand jeté, my mom sent me an iTunes card.  When I told her at the beginning of the month that I was going to reward my 100 miles in August with 10 new songs, she thought that was pretty skimpy.  So now I have $25 to spend.

The 20 songs at the top of  my list are (sorry no YouTube links, but typing one handed is a drag--I'm glad I'm managing to post anything at all):
  1. I'm Every Woman (Whitney Houston)
  2. Groove is in the Heart--Dee Lite
  3. Pleasant Valley Sunday--Monkees
  4. Billy Idol Cradle of Love
  5. Pink Floyd - One of These Days
  6. Go-Go's We Got the Beat
  7. Bangles Hazy Shade of Winter
  8. Adele Rolling in the Deep
  9. Barry Manilow Miracle
  10. Hawaiian Roller Coaster
  11. Flogging Molly - Devil's Dance Floor
  12. The Killers Somebody Told Me
  13. Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
  14. Adam and the Ants - Goody Two Shoes
  15. Romantics - What I like about you
  16. Erasure Oh L'amour
  17. Information Society I want to know what you're thinking
  18. Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5
  19. Coldplay - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall
  20. The Edge of Glory - Lady Gaga
I said that I would get the songs when I hit 100 miles.  Now I think I'll get them to celebrate my first walk "after."

Overall a solid list (but Coldplay? Really?) Nice to see Flogging Molly on there (in fact I had a pint at Molly Malone's the other day, the spiritual homeland of Flogging Molly...I missed them the last time that they were there...soooo sad).

Might I suggest the following to compliment your current list:

Dropkick Murphys - Shipping up to Boston; Warrior's Code

Flogging Molly - What's left of the Flag; Tobacco Island (this one will get SO stuck in your head); Within a Mile of Home

The Tossers - Good Mornin', Da; You Got Lucky; Siobahn.

The Pogues - Maggie May (yes, the Rod Stewart song, but it sounds really good coming out of drunken Irish Shane McGowan); If I Should Fall from Grace with God (currently used in a family SUV commercial which I find absolutely hillarious - the very idea that Shane McGowan would be associated in any way with family ANYTHING makes me smile every time).
Young Dubliners - Foggy Dew. This is a great song if you're needing to get into a "punch someone in the #&&%$@ face" kind of mood. Funny story - the local news station here in LA played this song as a bumper (going out to a commercial) on Saint Paddy's day. This is hillarious because the song is about the Easter Uprising in 1917 and not Saint Paddy, even in the least. My assumption is that some producer went to some intern and said "find me somthing Irishey for Saint Patrick's Day!" To which the intern thought "oh, buddy...I've got something Irishey for yuh..."

Sorry, rambling.

To compliment Billy Idol - awesome choice - may I suggest the following:

Iggy Pop - Lust for Life (used really oddly by Carnival Cruise Lines)

The Sex Pistols - My Way (used brilliantly at the end of Goodfellas).

The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated (this should be your anthem, dear Kimmerz)

I will check all those out, thanks! And yes (nodding head) about being Sedated.

As for the Coldplay, there are many songs I love that will never get onto my 'Pod and many others that I wouldn't otherwise listen to, simply because they either do or don't get me moving. That's all my iPod is for--keeping my "self" (ahem) in gear.
