Holy cow, am I drooling. I just got Best books for children : preschool through grade 6 from the library. I thought it would be another nice list of fiction, like The Read-Aloud Handbook. What I got was an incredible reference book. It lists over 25,000 children's books, arranged by theme. It also has an author list and a subject index. Each book only has a one-line summary, but it's enough to get me to investigate more through Amazon.
Sadly, it costs $80, so I guess I'll be checking it out of the library periodically and getting ideas for books to last a few months.
